The longest table
The whole company at one table, outdoors, however long it needs to be.
How it runs
- MorningThe table goes up: on a pier, a street, a field or a courtyard.
- EveningGuests arrive to one long line of light.
- DinnerServed in sections, all at once.
- LateSpeeches only from the middle of the table.
What to know
- A very long table needs runners and sound in sections.
- Public spaces need permits, and they take time.
- The rain plan is a canopy along the whole table, decided days ahead.
Good for
Company summer parties, anniversaries, the whole team together.
Not for
Winter, or groups who want a stage show.
Questions planners ask
How long can a table be?
As long as the site, the kitchen and the permits allow. The limit is usually the service, not the furniture.
What if it rains?
A canopy runs along the table. It's planned in from the start, not added at the last minute.
Can everyone hear the speeches?
With sound in sections, yes. Keep speeches short anyway.
Thinking of doing this?
Borrow the idea, it's yours. If you'd like a hand, or just a second opinion on whether it suits your group, write to me. I produce ideas like this one at Sorry, No Polar Bears, a Helsinki studio I co-run.
